65Calung is the Sunda musical instrument which is prototype from angklung. Different from angklung whose played by shaken down, Calung played with beating the bar ( wilahan, blade) of internodes ( bamboo tube) structured according to titi barrel ( gamut) pentatonik ( da-mi-na-ti-la). Bamboo type for the making of calung is most of awi wulung ( black bamboo), but is also which is made of awi temen ( white bamboo).
There is two kind of calung form, whitch is calung rantay and calung jinjing.
Calung Rantay Calung rantay his tube blade lines with 'kulit waru' rope ( lulub) from biggest blade until the smallest, Which is amount of 7 wilahan ( 7 bamboo internode) or more. his Appliance composition is which is one consecution and is also which is two consecution ( dipper indung and dipper anak/calung rincik). To play the Calung rantay beated with two hand at the same time and sit wit the legs crossed, usually calung is girded upon the house room or tree , there is also calung played on the ancak " dudukan" special chair from bamboo/wood, for example calung tarawangsa in Cibalong and Cipatujah, Tasikmalaya, calung rantay in Banjaran and Kanekes/Baduy.
Calung Jinjing Calung jinjing is made from lines of bamboo linked up with bamboo blade ( paniir). Actually, calung jinjing came from basic form of calung rantay whose modified to be group of calung. calung jinjing consist of calung kingking, panepas, jongjong anda gonggong.Calung kingking ( consist of 12 bamboo tube), calung panepas ( 5 / 3 and 2 bamboo tube), calung jongjrong(5 / 3 and 2 bamboo tube), and calung gonggong ( 2 bamboo tube).
Equipment of calung in his growth these days is only using the calung kingking one, panempas two and calung gonggong one, without using the calung jongjrong. How to play it like beated by hand right wear the beater, and left hand hold the instruments. And beater technique has manny technique such us dikeleter, dikemprang, dikempyung, diraeh, dirincik, dirangkep ( diracek), salancar, kotrek and solorok.
